Federal Pell Grant is a federally-funded grant program which provides aid to post-secondary undergraduate students seeking a certificate or diploma in an eligible program. Grant amount are determined yearly based on federal funding of the Pell Grant program. Federal Pell Grants do not have to be repaid.
Application for the Federal Pell Grant is made using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA. The FAFSA can be submitted:
- through the Internet by using FAFSA on the Web
- by using FAFSA Express software
- by having the Financial Aid office submit the application electronically
- by mailing the FAFSA in the envelope provided

Completing the FAFSA provides detailed instructions on how to properly complete a FAFSA, the purpose of the questions, and how to report information in some unusual cases. Also included are Frequently Asked Questions, Renewal FAFSA; and information on the Privacy Act and how the information submitted is used.
When a student applies for federal student aid, the information reported is used in a formula established by the U.S. Congress. The formula determines the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), an amount the student and his/her family are expected to contribute toward the student's education (although this amount may not exactly match the amount the student and family actually contribute). If the EFC is below a certain amount, the student will be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant, assuming all other eligibility criteria are met.
