Automotive Service Technology

Program Description:

Automotive Service Technology is a two-year program, half-day attendance, or 1050 clock hours in length. Classes are offered in the morning and afternoon. The curriculum and entire program are ASE certified by the National Automotive Technicians Educational Foundation, Inc.

Skilled automotive service technicians will always be in demand. Automotive Service Technology trains students to service and repair passenger and light commercial vehicles with gasoline engines. Students acquire the skills and the basic knowledge necessary to secure a job in this rewarding field.

The program covers aspects of fuel injection, exhaust, steering, suspension, brakes, wiring, electronics, engine performance and drivability systems. Students receive theory of operation, as well as hand-on training with "live" vehicles. The program is certified through the national Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) as a program of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) n the following areas: Brakes, Electrical Systems Engine Performance, and Suspension and Steering.

You will learn to use the following equipment and materials:

  • Diagnostic Scan Tools
  • Computerized Wheel Alignment Machine
  • Computer Engine Analyzer
  • Computer Based Reference Materials
  • Brake Drum/Rotor Lathes
  • Digital Multi-Meters
  • Starter and Alternator Test Equipment
  • Car Lifts
  • Air Tools and Special Equipment

College Credit:

Students successfully completing the program can seek entry-level employment in an occupational competency area, or pursue further education and training at a two-year college, or automotive training institute. Students enrolled in the Automotive Service Technology program at Chisholm Trail Technology Center can also receive up to 16 hours of college credit from OSU-Okmulgee that can be applied towards an Associate in Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) in Automotive Service Technology.

Certifications:

Certificates are issued for passing state competency test in the four areas the program covers: Brakes Technician, Suspension and Steering Technician, Electrical/Electronic Systems Technician, and Engine Performance Technician.

National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) primary responsibilities are to inspect, evaluate and certify the program and individuals to achieve a predetermined level of excellence in eight pre-determined areas.

Salary Range:

$25,000 - $75,000
